Vaccination – an international and European priority

Global Vaccination Summit, Brussels 12 September 2019

The Steering Group on Influenza Vaccination was honoured to participate in an important meeting – the Global Vaccination Summit – organised by the European Commission, in cooperation with the World Health Organisation on the 12 September 2019 in Brussels, Belgium.

The event gathered high-level politicians, policy-makers and key opinion leaders in the healthcare community with the overall objective to give a greater visibility and political endorsement to the topic of vaccination, which is the most successful public health measure saving millions of lives every year.

In his opening speech, President Jean Claude Juncker said, “Against this challenge (of the spread of vaccine misinformation), none organisation can be left on its own”. The Steering Group is delighted to contribute to rebuilding trust in vaccination through the joint efforts of its Members, but also as part of a broader Coalition for Vaccination.

Back-to-back to the Global Vaccination Summit, took place the 2nd meeting of the Coalition for Vaccination, of which member the Steering Group is. Gathering representatives of healthcare professionals, the Coalition for Vaccination was established to commit to delivering accurate information to the public, combating myths and exchanging best practices. During the meeting, our potential commitments through this initiative were discussed.

Please see below the press release issued by the Co-Chairs of the Coalition for Vaccination on that occasion.
